Food-culture links increase multi-cultural understanding, as this video examines the origins of many foods we take for granted:

• Sauerkraut is Chinese; chocolate is from Central America, yogurt, Bulgaria.
• Many of our most common “ethnic foods” are not ethnic at all. Chili isn’t Mexican, you won’t find chop suey in China, and spaghetti and meatballs is uniquely American.
• Chow mein and French toast are more “ethnic slurs” than ethnic recipes.
• Many Western eating habits are considered repulsive by other peoples.
• Many cultures do not drink milk, and some Europeans view eating corn on the cob as strange.
